A couple of days ago in a mall I bumped into a lonesome Chinese Fire Belly Newt (Technocol that’s his or her name given spontaneously after a glue brand). At that very moment on the spot we became very good friends. I had known little of newts so did the dealer. Relying on the shallow knowledge I got by googleing the subject I managed to set up quite a Spartan tank as a makeshift solution furnished only with an empty chewing gum box floating around providing him little shelter.
To cut it short in the morning after I found the poor creature in bad shape struggling to keep his balance on the top of the box as if he was trying to avoid any physical contact with the water. Well, obviously my fault. He’d actually have needed a more stable ground (despite spending most of his time underwater he comes out at night for a good sleep) and / or a warmer surroundings. After all he’s from a rather tropical climate. But no need to worry. Now he lives in a more convenient environment and seemingly fancies it.
Anyway, I’ve just checked out what’s going on on IF and ended up with this sketch that I guess suits the theme. That’s Technocol as trying real hard to get over with that scary night all on his own adrift in a little tank. (I dressed him up in warm scarf to ease the certain sense of guilt that I still feel.)
Update: We are four of us now since I went back to the pet shop this morning and rescued two lovely Western Dwarf Clawed Frogs. Having a great fun together.
